Fall is a beautiful time to kayak! Took a nice drive across the country so didn't get to kayak much this fall, but hopefully many of you did!
In the northeast where I live the river banks are absolutely breathtaking with all the colors of autumn. Every color from the deepest of greens in the evergreens, purples, reds, oranges, crimson, rusts, golden, ambers, and yellows!
AHHH!!!

Types of kayaking
There are several different types of kayaking. It is interesting to understand the definition and types. There is sea kayaking, ocean kayaking which some refer to as sea kayaking, white water kayaking, river kayaking, and plain old kayaking around the harbor or lakes, etc.
Wikipedia offers a god start for the definition and types ..enjoy!

Safety First ..yes even on a kayak!
Boating of all types can be fun, but like with any other fun activity comes some risk. It is important to be informed about boating safety. As an ex boating safety instructor, I wanted to be sure to mention that there are plenty of good book, courses, and people out there that can provide great safety information.
Department of Natural Resources and the Coast Guard just to name a couple. Please learn about boating safety before you venture out.

Just because a kayak is a smaller vessel without all the fancy stuff bigger boats have does not mean safety should be disregarded by any means.
So Happy, Safe Kayaking!

City Paper
If you have not read the City Paper this week, please grab one and read it. The front will entice any kayaker because the word WATER is stretched across the front.
The story and cover shows a local diver / kayaker...yes he dives in the inner harbor.
Take a look ...quite interesting!

Gunpowder State Park
Kayaking down the river in Gunpowder State park is glorious. There are many areas and places to kayak. If you go up to the Monkton area. About a 30 minute drive.
There are 3 runs (lengths of the river that you kayak down). The runs are either 1,2,or 3 hours long depending on which you have time or desire to do.
Gunpowder State park info (Click here)
What a way to spend the day! Kayak, swim, picnic, chill on the banks (the beachyish shorelines) with locals!
If you need an extra kayak or more info, contact me or see our rental info on this page.
Try it you'll like it!

On the harbor!
Last night a few casual kayakers went to Pier 6 to listen to some classic rock ...British band! It was awesome.
So if anyone wants to hear an upcoming artist at Pier 6 ...water might be the way to go.
Remember as always safety first ..so you will need a light and a whistle, life jacket of course. When kayaking at night be sure to stay close to the shoreline, light on and keep eyes open in the distance.
We were able to hear the music, talk with other spectators,as well as people partying along the marinas on boats ...and there was a beautiful sunset. The we shot over to Fells Point for a bit!
Great fun and exercise!
